KINGSTON 26 Mei – Pertempuran bersenjata yang menggegarkan ibu negara Jamaica meragut lebih 60 nyawa yang kebanyakannya orang awam, demikian menurut sumber hospital semalam, ketika pasukan tentera dikerahkan ke seluruh bandar raya ini untuk memburu seorang raja dadah.
Polis meletakkan angka korban seramai 27 orang, namun Perdana Menteri Bruce Golding memberi amaran ia kemungkinan besar meningkat dan polis malam tadi menyatakan terdapat ‘beberapa pembunuhan’ di kawasan Greater Kingston.
Beratus-ratus orang anggota tentera dan polis dikerahkan untuk memburu Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke, yang dikehendaki di Amerika Syarikat atas dakwaan penyeludupan dadah, dalam ketegangan seminggu dengan penyokongnya.
